The Falcon of the Plantagenets King Edward III passed the Falcon to Queen Elizabeth II when she took the throne. It symbolized his love of falconing. The white Falcon at The Queen’s coronation held a shield with a badge depicting a second white falcon within an open golden ‘fetterlock’ or padlock. The falcon is said to have been the favorite badge of Queen Elizabeth I.

When Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne of England in 1953 in Westminister Abbey, at the entrance stood 10 statues of the various Queen's Beasts standing guard.
